Restricted area identity card (RAIC)

RAICs contain biometric data relating to iris images and fingerprints, which allow for improved control over airport personnel accessing restricted areas.

To obtain a RAIC, you must have a Transportation Security Clearance issued by Transport Canada. The security clearance is valid for five (5) years.

NEW APPLICATION

If you do not have a security clearance or if it is expired, you must submit a new application to Transport Canada.

RENEWAL

Whether your RAIC is expiring soon, or has already expired, you must first check the reason for the expiration.

Your security clearance expires (after 5 years):

  • RAIC about to expire, but still valid: you must request a security clearance renewal from Transport Canada. Refer to the Renewal section on this page for instructions.
  • RAIC already expired: you must submit a new security clearance application to Transport Canada. Refer to the New Request section on this page for instructions.

Your contract or that of your company ends, but your security clearance is still valid: you must have your RAIC reprinted, without requesting a security clearance renewal from Transport Canada. You will need a Biometry type appointment at the APO. Contact your authorized signing officer to find out the expiration date of your security clearance. Refer to the Appointment Booking page for more information and to view the list of required documents.

Issuing a RAIC and adding access
When the APO agent gives you your RAIC, or accesses are added, a delay of approximately 15 minutes is normally required for the synchronization of your card data with our internal access control systems, and for your RAIC to be functional.

Terms and conditions of a RAIC and a temporary pass
It is important to know that all security components issued by the APO are governed by the Canadian Aviation Security Regulations, 2012 (CASR 2012).  When you receive your RAIC or temporary pass, you will have to sign Terms and conditions that must be always respected by any holder.
