It is possible to observe aircraft through the picture windows in the domestic, transborder and international area, which is only accessible to passengers who have checked in and who have been screened. For the time being, there is no public observation area.

The airport’s full name is Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The shortened version is Montréal-Trudeau and its IATA code is YUL. It is important to know that the airport was formerly called Montréal–Dorval International Airport, or Montréal-Dorval, and that the use of this name is still common in everyday language and on road signs.

Passengers are not required to pay any taxes at the airport. However, airport improvement fees (AIFs) ($20 plus GST) are included in the price of airline tickets for all passengers leaving from Montréal–Trudeau. All AIF revenues are used to finance airport improvements.

There are about a dozen automated teller machines (ATMs) located throughout the terminal. All debit cards are accepted. Bank of Montreal ATMs accept MasterCard credit cards, while Royal Bank ATMs accept Visa. An ATM located in the international area distributes euros and another in the transborder zone distributes U.S. currency.

Bicycles to be carried as luggage must be properly prepared prior to arrival at the airport. The handlebars must be fixed sideways and the pedals removed. The bicycle must be placed in a specially designed rigid container. Bicycle suitcases containing collapsible bicycles are also accepted.

Located on the 2nd floor of the public area and equipped with a microwave and sink, the breastfeeding room offers mothers and their nursing infants a calm environment.

Montréal–Trudeau airport is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the operating hours of airline check-in counters and airport services vary according to flights. Please consult our Aeroshopping and Services section for specific information about the service that interests you.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is responsible for providing customs and immigration services at border crossings and in major international airports. For further details, please consult our Formalities/Arriving Passengers section.

Travellers arriving at Canada’s major international airports can now clear customs much more quickly! An initiative of the Canada Border Services Agency, CANPASS streamlines customs and immigration clearance for low-risk, pre-screened travellers. Under this program, participants can pass quickly through Canadian customs by simply looking at a camera lens, which recognizes their iris as proof of identity. These travellers are identified quickly and safely. Travellers’ safety and increased freedom of movement are the cornerstones of the CANPASS program.

Cargo is not processed within the terminal itself. If you have packages to send by express freight or general cargo, please deal directly with the transportation company or shipping agent of your choice. Consult our Business Cargo section.

Rules concerning the number, size and weight of all carry-on luggage are stipulated by your airline. In general, you are entitled to bring two pieces, including any duty-free purchases, and you must be able to stow them under your seat or in the overhead luggage compartment. Some articles, such as coats, purses, cameras and strollers, are generally not included in your baggage allowance. In most cases, all pertinent information is provided on your airline’s website. Each airline has a policy regarding checked luggage. As a general rule, the amount of luggage travellers are permitted to check in depends on your airline ticket class and, occasionally, on your destination. Keep in mind the maximum number of pieces as well as the maximum weight and size of each item. In most cases, this information is provided on your airline’s website. An information desk, open 24 hours a day, is located near Entrance 1 on the departures level. Another desk is located on the arrivals level near the exit. Courtesy telephones located at various sites throughout the terminal offer a direct link to the information desk.

The transportation and delivery of checked luggage is your airline’s responsibility. If you notice a problem with your luggage when you arrive at Montréal–Trudeau, immediately go to your airline’s luggage service counter inside the terminal. In particular, you should report any damages or loss on site. If you discover a problem at a later date, you should contact your airline by phone or by Internet.

When you wish to pick up or drop off passengers at Montréal–Trudeau airport, you can stop your vehicle in front of the terminal on the departures or arrivals level but you may not park there. If you intend to enter the terminal, please park your vehicle in one of the terminal parking lots and then proceed to the public arrivals hall.

In the event of an emergency at Montréal–Trudeau airport: press the emergency button located on all public telephones or dial 514-420-5000 or contact a member of the Airport Patrol or any Aéroports de Montréal customer service representative. All companies offering aeronautic services (FBO) or private flights are located on Ryan Street.

Members of the Airport Patrol are trained to act as first responders. They are trained to intervene quickly and to offer advanced first aid. To call for assistance, all public phones in the terminal are equipped with an emergency button.

There are children’s games available in the waiting room located on the 2nd floor.

Some airlines offer group check-in services. Please contact your airline for further information. The waiting room located on the 2nd floor of the terminal (mezzanine) may be used as a meeting area for your group prior to departure.

Foreign exchange offices sell various travel insurance products.

There are Internet stations located in several locations throughout the terminal.

Passengers will be permitted to bring liquids, gels and aerosols through security screening at Canadian airports provided that the items are packaged in containers with a capacity of 100 ml / 100 grams (3.4 oz) or less, and that the containers fit comfortably in one clear, closed and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 litre (1 quart). The approximate dimensions of a 1-litre/quart bag are 15.24 cm by 22.86 cm (6 in. by 9 in.) or 20 cm by 17.5 cm (8 in. by 7 in.). One bag per passenger will be permitted. To drop off or reclaim a lost item, contact the lost and found office (cloak room) located in the public area on the arrivals level. Information: (514) 633-2076. Luggage trolleys are available free of charge to passengers in the parking lots and passenger drop-off areas, in the luggage pick-up areas, as well as in the international jetty.

To pick up any luggage that has been withheld by customs officials when arriving from the United Stated or from abroad, you are invited to use the courtesy phones located in the international public arrivals hall to speak to a Canada Customs customer service representative.

This high-end, 275-room hotel is currently under construction near the terminal. The full-service hotel — featuring a pool, gymnasium, business centre, restaurants and conference rooms — will operate under the Marriott banner. The prestigious chain has a grand total of 2,700 hotels worldwide, 600 of them corporate establishments. The hotel is scheduled to open in spring 2008.

Frequent travellers to the United States can use a NEXUS card to cross the border quickly and easily. NEXUS automated self-serve kiosks are now available at the following airports: Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. They will be available in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Halifax later in 2007. NEXUS meets the requirements of the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) air rule. A NEXUS card can serve as a quick alternative to a passeport when travelling to, or through, the United States by air at those airports where automated self-serve kiosks are available. In general, pointed or sharp objects, weapons, dangerous materials and lighters are not permitted. Liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted with certain restrictions. Small electronic devices are permitted. Pets are allowed in the terminal as long as they are in a cage or on a leash. If you are travelling with your pet, please ask your airline before you leave about the options available to you, the type of cage to use, how to prepare your pet, restrictions and applicable fees, etc. In most cases, this information is provided on your carrier’s website. If your pet travels as cargo, you must pick it up from your airline’s cargo services area.

There is no pharmacy at Montréal–Trudeau Airport. The Mini-Marché, located on the arrivals level, and Press Relay shops offer over-the-counter pharmaceutical products.

A photocopy service is offered at the main foreign exchange office located on the departures level.

Upon departure, passengers can obtain porter services by asking at the Aéroports de Montréal information desk or by calling (514) 636-8320.

Stamps can be purchased at Maison de la presse newsstands and mail boxes are located in the public area of the terminal.

Aéroports de Montréal offers visitors a prayer room, open to all religious denominations, located in the public area on the 2nd floor of the terminal.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is responsible for the pre-boarding screening of passengers and their luggage. There are three checkpoints at Montréal–Trudeau (A, B and C). All passengers must go through the checkpoint assigned to them before proceeding to their departure gate (domestic, transborder or international area). There are several public telephones available in the terminal. The cost for a local call is 50 cents, which can be paid in cash or by credit card. Local calls must be preceded by the area code (514 or 450). For long-distance calls within Canada and to the U.S., callers must dial 1 followed by the area code. For international calls, dial 011 followed by the country code and the city code.

The airport’s radio station (89.7 FM) broadcasts airport-related information 24 hours a day within a 10-km radius.

In accordance with the regulations currently in effect, the Montréal–Trudeau terminal offers a non-smoking environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the terminal as well as on the apron.

Instantly receive flight status on your cell phone by text message by sending your flight number to 23636. You can also receive an alert by SMS if the flight schedule changes. The service automatically recognizes if the flight is arriving or departing. Example: If you want information on flight AY123 arriving from Calgary send ''AY123'' to the number 23636. For assistance on text messaging, please refer to your mobile carrier. A fee of $0.25, per flight information received, will be added to the users cellular phone bill.

Some public telephones located in the terminal are equipped with a telephone-teletype device.

The Montréal–Trudeau terminal comprises four areas, including a public area accessible to everyone. Only passengers who have been checked in and screened are allowed in the restricted areas (domestic, international and transborder). For example, a passenger on a flight to a Canadian destination has access to the domestic area only.

Travellers can purchase airline tickets at the Montréal-Trudeau airport. The airlines’ ticket kiosks are located near their check-in counters on the departures level. We recommend that you call your airline ahead of time to inquire about business hours.

Tour operators and travel wholesalers have a counter located on the departures level near entrance door 1. If they wish, passengers can meet their representative there and pick up their travel documents.

Wheelchairs are available at the information desks located on the departures level for people with reduced mobility who wish to circulate within the terminal. The three letters—YUL—represent Montréal–Trudeau Airport’s IATA code. The code is used primarily for luggage stickers.
