Rail shuttle
Aéroports de Montréal is planning to introduce an express rail service linking Montréal–Trudeau Airport to downtown Montréal, similar to other such systems in large cities across the globe. This project received priority status at the 2003 Montréal Economic Summit.
After several years of studies and discussions, ADM, together with the Agence métropolitaine de transport, Transports Québec, Transport Canada, the City of Montréal and the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, agreed on a common project to improve passenger rail service between the West Island and downtown. The project, which includes creating a rail corridor for passenger service, would provide an express shuttle to Montréal–Trudeau and at the same time enhance commuter train service for the communities of the West Island, all from a sustainable-development perspective.
A Steering Committee composed of the main partners has been established and tasked with setting out directions for the project and approving all budgets, deadlines, financing, studies and reports.
According to the proposed development plan, Montréal–Trudeau Airport will be connected to the CN-CP rail network by two tracks leading from a station incorporated into the terminal. At its own expense, ADM has begun work on the future Montréal–Trudeau rail station beneath the new sector for departures to the United States adjacent to the air terminal, as it is more advantageous to do so now.
